Braaainnnsss… [Cape Town Zombie Walk] | Cape Town CBD, South Africa | October 2013

As the Zombie Walk’s Facebook page proclaims : “ As Halloween grows nearer, the smell of rotting flesh and fear fills the air. The dead grow restless and the warmth of summer approaches, we all know it's time for Cape Town's 4th Annual Zombie Walk.”

The walk takes place each year in Cape Town (usually followed by a themed after party) in order to raise money for the Lucky Lucy Foundation.

This year the recently risen undead walked from Thibault Square to Company Gardens through St. George’s Mall.

The Travelling Goldfish found itself potential prey for the zombie herd (is there a collective noun for zombies? Possibly a shamble/a lurch/an apocalypse) and some of the scariest blood-syrup faced children it has ever encountered.

If you are around on 01 November 2014 why not consider joining the Zombie Walk – not only can you donate towards a really great cause but you also get all the fun of experimenting with strange coloured stage make-up, congealed blood and your best Walking Dead impression.

An African Winter | Maloti Mountains, Lesotho, Southern Africa | August 2012

If you haven’t done it yet, you need to experience snow, during winter, in Africa.

[Above photo credit to AfriSki]
High up in the Maloti mountains of Lesotho the AfriSki Resort offers the chance for skiing, snow-boarding and other snow-frolicking activities. The scenery on site, as beautiful as it is, is spectacularly complemented by the drive through Lesotho’s mountain region – go carefully in the snow and the dark, the roads are narrow and treacherous in places.
"Where is Lesotho?" I hear some of you ask.. maybe the below can assist in pointing out this landlocked country nestled in South Africa.

Once there, the resort offers accommodation ranging from chalets, to lodges and apartments as well as very affordable backpackers (although if you choose this option be sure you’re prepared to share your space inside this metal box with the wild, young and irresponsible). Ski and snow-boarding lessons are available on site in case this is your first time on frozen water.

If you’re travelling from South Africa, just remember that no alcohol is allowed across the border and all food items need to be accounted for on a tax invoice/till slip otherwise you can face challenges at the border point.

The Beauty of Creation – Obsolete World | Twilight, all over The World | October 2013

What an amazing experience to be able to go online and support an artist on the other side of the world who is breathing life into a new and beautiful creation.
Tonight two good friends of The Travelling Goldfish (together with at least (at the time of writing) thirty-three other backers) broke open their china pigs, counted their coins, and put them towards supporting the art book, “Wisdom for Debris.”

[All visuals are the property of the artist]
Created by artist Jeannie Lynn Paske from Portland, Wisdom for Debris is a collection of work created around her “Obsolete World” characters. In her words “Obsolete world is a name that was originally taken from the 1961 Twilight Zone episode “The Obsolete Man” where in a future totalitarian state, Burgess Meredith’s character (a librarian) is a man put on trial for the crime of being obsolete. I had always loved that episode and I pictured a similar scenario in which the make-believe creatures of childhood suffer a similar “crime” as one grows old. I took to the task of conserving these victims of consequence and created “Obsolete World” as a place where my own creations could safely while away the hours.”

The gentle creatures, softness of colour, and the forlorn beauty of this world reach out towards us with lingering fingers offering shadows of our own emotions, explorations of thoughts-made-graphic, and echoes of our own experiences in this brighter, harsher world.

The Kickstarter campaign offers the opportunity to support this project while at the same time receiving exclusive items such as original illustration artwork and prints, the hardcover book, exclusive Wisdom for Debris T-shirts and a special limited edition of the book that includes a CD of Eluvium’s original music (also used in the Kickstarter video - http://eluvium.net/works/).
Learn (and experience) more at http://obsoleteworld.com/,  http://obsolete-world.blogspot.com/ or visit her on Facebook or Twitter (@ObsoleteWorld) – and if, like us, you too want to put your pennies towards becoming a patron – visit her Kickstarter page : http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsoleteworld/wisdom-for-debris-art-book

Jeannie – we wish you all the luck in the world with this new adventure and thank you for sharing your exquisite world with us.

Rocking the Daisies 2013 | Cloof Wine Estate, Darling, South Africa | October 2013

The Travelling Goldfish has returned from the hustle bustle and energetic craziness that is Rocking the Daisies and is, once again, settling back into to life in the Bowl.

The weekend was a riot of colourful people, fantastic music and incredible scenery, not to mention time in the sun (although wrapped up warmly) with good friends!

Did we meet up during our travels that weekend? If so maybe you’re one of the gorgeous people below who took a moment to pose…
