The Beauty of Creation – Obsolete World | Twilight, all over The World | October 2013

What an amazing experience to be able to go online and support an artist on the other side of the world who is breathing life into a new and beautiful creation.
Tonight two good friends of The Travelling Goldfish (together with at least (at the time of writing) thirty-three other backers) broke open their china pigs, counted their coins, and put them towards supporting the art book, “Wisdom for Debris.”

Created by artist Jeannie Lynn Paske from Portland, Wisdom for Debris is a collection of work created around her “Obsolete World” characters. In her words “Obsolete world is a name that was originally taken from the 1961 Twilight Zone episode “The Obsolete Man” where in a future totalitarian state, Burgess Meredith’s character (a librarian) is a man put on trial for the crime of being obsolete. I had always loved that episode and I pictured a similar scenario in which the make-believe creatures of childhood suffer a similar “crime” as one grows old. I took to the task of conserving these victims of consequence and created “Obsolete World” as a place where my own creations could safely while away the hours.”

The gentle creatures, softness of colour, and the forlorn beauty of this world reach out towards us with lingering fingers offering shadows of our own emotions, explorations of thoughts-made-graphic, and echoes of our own experiences in this brighter, harsher world.

The Kickstarter campaign offers the opportunity to support this project while at the same time receiving exclusive items such as original illustration artwork and prints, the hardcover book, exclusive Wisdom for Debris T-shirts and a special limited edition of the book that includes a CD of Eluvium’s original music (also used in the Kickstarter video - http://eluvium.net/works/).

Jeannie – we wish you all the luck in the world with this new adventure and thank you for sharing your exquisite world with us.
